KRLX 88.1FM Radio Shows (2019-2023)

KRLX 88.1FM, for those not aware, is Carleton’s freeform radio station.

Since my freshman fall, I’ve had a radio show every term ranging from talking about Carleton news to Drum and Bass. I’ve also helped prepare a public interview for Alli B while reaching out to other professors and faculty.

It’s definitely the highlight of Carleton for me (I became the Station Manager), but it gave me a public platform to both talk about the news, random queries I had, or a new song I liked. Much like Digital Humanities, radio is a form of publicly accessible media. Although it may not be, I still learned a lot about how media works.

Boat Grave Chamber Artifact (2022)

For this project, I selected an artifact found in an archeological Viking boat grave. I chose the comb otherwise known as Kamm.

After selecting it, I wrote a blog entry about it, and I found a public-domain Viking comb to represent in a model.

This project showed me an instance of making information more accessible because the original archeological document was in German and technical, it was hard to understand. The blog and model help give a better sense of how it all works.

History of the Potato Wikipedia Page (2022)

For my Archeology in Americas course, I had to edit a Wikipedia page instead of writing a paper to shed more light on American Archeology. I decided to edit the “History of the Potato” (mainly the “Early history in South America section”) because Potatoes are a common piece of archeological data in South America.

Over 24,500 have visited this page in the last month! I was able to bring more modern academic sources to a website that every goes on for research.

Trip CCCE Schedule Software Mockup (2022)

In this project, we worked with the Trip CCCE to make a mockup for scheduling software to assign shifts based on their needs.

Although we don’t have a working website, we were able to test through several iterations with staff to design an interface that truly worked for them. It also showed me how technology can be used to help people and learning about what people need was quite illuminating.
